Camera Boat
"Far Side"
Below are some photos of filming a Chrysler
commercial with Ritts Hayden. We had favorable results with a Wescam mounted on
the bow (scroll down for more information.)
The fully licensed, safety inspected, and
federally documented vessel “Far Side” is the only one of its kind. Designed
by E.A. Drake of Seattle, and custom built in 1988 out of aluminum by Bel Mar
Fabrication. Powered by a duel prop with a quiet 280 horsepower Volvo gas
engine. It does 20 knots and is highly maneuverable. The 34 by 12-ft. craft is a
very shippable at 10,000 pounds yet can carry five times its own weight.
There are 800 cubic feet of wet or dry cargo space and 350 square feet of deck
area. A removable cabin and awning allow 360-degree camera work or access under
bridges. The cabin has a heater, two bunks, and a galley. Other equipment
includes a removable hydraulic mast and boom capable of lifting a ton over the
side, a dive compressor, and 110-volt generator. The electronics package
includes radar, global positioning plotter, and two color video sounders. Four
modern radios provide two way communications on the marine, aviation, ham,
citizens band, and every frequency between them. There is a cell phone and a
laptop.
I charge $1200 per 12-hour day plus expenses for
the boat and myself. If you need to
see the boat, it is located at foot of Leavenworth in San Francisco. I’m a
Coast Guard licensed operator with many years of worldwide experience. If you
have any questions please call or email me anytime. Andy
